In 2023 a worker was kneeling in a casting mould when the hydraulic launder arm, weighing around 1.5 tonnes, fell on him as a result of hydraulic failure; he was trapped for more than 20 minutes and has not been able to return to work since. The safety bar was not fit for purpose and the risk of the arm falling had never been assessed; fine of 300,000 GBP plus 8,301 GBP in costs. According to its 2025 annual accounts, the plant had an average of 345 employees.
Do not work beneath raised loads – where this cannot be avoided, use tested mechanical fall-prevention devices.
