27 Jan 2025 ECIT Account A/SECIT Account: DKK 20m as facilitator of a nightclub cartel DenmarkCartels and collusion €2.68m

The Sø- og Handelsretten (Danish Maritime and Commercial High Court) imposed a civil fine of 20,000,000 DKK on the accounting and IT service provider ECIT Account A/S. From 2004 to 2020 the company acted as cartel facilitator, formalising and maintaining an agreement among several nightclubs not to open branches in each other's towns or within a set radius, among other things through the chair of their joint purchasing company. It was the first civil competition fine imposed by a court since the 2021 legislative amendment; the Konkurrencerådet (Danish Competition Council) had sought at least 30 million DKK. The decision is not final.

What organisations can take from it
