15 Oct 2025 Biffa Waste Services LtdBiffa: £2.48m fine after fatal accident involving a reversing lorry €2.85m
Waste company Biffa was fined £2.48m and ordered to pay £5,768.06 in costs after a worker at its Bradford waste transfer station was struck and killed by a reversing skip wagon on 10 August 2023. The Health and Safety Executive found that the segregation of pedestrians and vehicles was not effectively monitored; CCTV showed that workers routinely bypassed the protected routes.
Control measures on paper are not enough; whether they are actually followed must be monitored continuously.
