17 Jan 2025 Equifax Inc. und Equifax Information Services LLCCFPB: Equifax pays 15 million USD over flawed handling of credit report disputes €14.6m
According to the CFPB, Equifax did not properly reinvestigate disputes about credit report entries, allowed deleted entries to be reinserted, informed consumers inadequately of the results and did not block entries resulting from identity theft as required (Fair Credit Reporting Act). The company also sold inaccurate credit scores after test code had been introduced into a production server; the order imposes a fine of 15 million USD. The authority allegedly made the findings set out here; this account is not based on a final judgment.
Data corrections must be lasting, and software changes may only reach production systems after testing.
