20 Aug 2025 Petrogal, S.A.Portugal: €200,000 for Petrogal over deleted call recordings and more €200,000
The energy regulator imposed a combined fine of 400,000 EUR on electricity and gas supplier Petrogal, halved to 200,000 EUR in the settlement procedure. The trigger was an incident in 2023 in which an external service provider deleted all customer call recordings older than 30 days; further breaches were unpaid compensation, incorrect invoice data, deficient customer information, late replies to telephone enquiries and complaint-book entries that were not forwarded.
Retention obligations also apply to data held by service providers; external partners' deletion routines must be controlled contractually and technically.
